If someone offered you the choice to be young forever, would you take it?
If someone offered to take disease from you, would you accept it?
If someone offered to make you immortal. Would you do it…?
”I’m going to give you the choice, I never had…”
He felt her loss, many times before. Unlike others, he mourned it the most. His fingers ran through his blonde locks. His blue eyes scanning the witch up and down.
“ Can you do it…? ” He asked impatiently.
The woman snarled and looked away, “ I can, but I need a lock of her hair. ”
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small handkerchief. The piece of cloth was white silk with the initial ‘L’ in the corner, in black threading. He began to unfold it delicately. As if something precious was in it. And there was. Once the cloth was completely opened; a couple strands of fiery red hair were visible.
“ Is that good enough? ” He asked.
The woman took his hand and smiled gently. Her eyes looking up and down, the fine strands of hair. Finally, her decision was made.
“ That’s what I need. ” she chuckled, “ Now go, so I may do my work… ”
The male then nodded, taking his leave.
After hours upon hours of working, it seemed to be a flawed experiment. The incantations and potions weren’t working at all. Until it hit. Ashes began to rain down onto the rectangular altar. Laying perfectly out across it in long length. Momentarily, the form of a body began to develop from the ashes. It was a dead redheaded girl. Her body laying long lengthed. Nude. The woman returned to the girl, looking down at her and gently tapping her cheek. Asking her to wake. The girl didn’t even breathe. Nothing. She layed there as she had before; motionless. Lifeless.
The witch cursed under her breath. She was close. But that’s all that happened. A body. Nothing more. She shook her head and walked away. She then took one last look at the naked girl, “ I will discard you in the morning, child… ” She said gently, then walked inside her house.
Several minutes later, the dead body’s pale green eyes shot open. Trying to breath. Gasping for air, like someone who was suffocating would. Touching her throat and rolling to her side, only to fall off the altar. Her eyes nervously looking around as she grasped the side of the table. Tears formed down her cheeks, shaking her head. Scared out of her mind and so unsure of what was going on around her. She calmed a bit when a small table caught her eye. She got up, trying to walk a bit. Stumbling.
As she approached the table, she noticed a book. The binding was flipped open to a page that read out ‘ the breath of life. ’ She looked around, even more confused now. She looked back at the rectangular table and then back to the book; only to another thing catching her eye. It was the hankerchief on the table. The one that the man gave the witch with the locks of red hair. She gently picked it up, and looked at it, her pale green hues resting on the ‘L’. She was then startled by a woman shrieking with happiness.
“ Claudia! ”
